StoryCon sold out of its nearly 3500 tickets to writers looking to hone their craft, but it’s keeping many of its activities free to the public. Organized by Operation Literacy, a local 501c3 nonprofit on a mission to fight Utah’s literacy crisis, StoryCon is a combined writing camp and book expo that will be the largest book event in the nation for February 2026. It will host bestselling authors like Brandon Sanderson, Shannon Messenger, Soman Chainani, and more in a mission to foster a love of reading and writing in young people. “If you teach a child to love reading,” says Aaron Hall, Operation Literacy’s Director of PR, “they’re more likely to succeed academically and vocationally later in life. The fact that most Utah 3rd graders are reading below grade level is a massive concern. We’re looking to change that by creating an environment that makes reading fun and exciting.” But much of StoryCon’s free programming isn’t just for kids. Book-loving adults will also find a place to thrive.
Free activities at StoryCon will start with the Story Explorium Ribbon Cutting ceremony on Thursday, February 27th, at 6:00PM. The Story Explorium is Operation Literacy’s interactive adventure booth that will sell bookish decorations and merchandise to help fund Operation Literacy’s efforts to deliver free books to children.
Starting Friday at 10:00AM, the StoryCon Exhibit Hall will open to the public. This Exhibit Hall will feature over 100 booths of authors, crafts, games, and art. But the Exhibit Hall will also feature:
StoryLand for Little Readers: Children’s storytime sessions with renowned children’s book authors and free signed books for attendees, plus activities, crafts, games, and resources for families.
Live performances from Hale Center Theatre’s Story Weavers
Armored combat showcase from The 13th Legion of Utah
Showcases of film, music, and theater from StoryCon’s contest winners
StoryCon will take place at the Salt Palace Convention Center, February 27-28, 2026. Free programming for the public will be available both days.

❄️ Winter Weather is Here! ❄️
The snow is finally falling, and we are excited to enjoy a little winter weather this week! As we head into colder temperatures, please remember to send your students to school with appropriate outdoor gear. A warm jacket, gloves, and a beanie (hat) will help them stay comfortable during recess.
Students do not necessarily need full snow gear, as recess is only 15 minutes and it often takes much of that time just to get dressed to go outside. We would also appreciate your help reminding your child to stay dry by not rolling in the snow. Students will not be able to call home for dry clothes or shoes if they get wet.
Our goal is for students to have fun, enjoy the fresh air (which is so good for them!), and come back inside ready to focus and learn. We hold outdoor recess unless the temperature is below 20 degrees or it is pouring rain.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership! 😊

Lakeview Parents & Guardians,
We are reaching out to let you know that our school currently has outstanding lunch balances totaling nearly $5,000. This message serves as our first attempt to clear up negative lunch balances, and we kindly ask that you check your student’s account and make a payment as soon as possible.
Payments can be made in the following ways:
Through your PowerSchool account
By sending money with your student
By coming into the school office to pay
Beginning this week, we will also be sending notices home with students who have negative balances. If balances remain unpaid, a 10-day letter will be sent prior to moving accounts forward to collections beginning March 20th, 2026.
We truly appreciate your prompt attention and your support in helping us take care of these balances. Thank you for partnering with us to support our students and school community.

We want to remind students and families of our Lakeview school rule regarding toys. All toys should be left at home, as they have become a distraction during instruction and are impeding academic learning. Our school policy for grades K–6 is no toys at school, unless a teacher communicates a special occasion in advance. Please take a moment to remind your student of this expectation and check their backpack before they leave for school. In addition, all school supplies—such as special notebooks, markers, pencils, and similar items—can also be kept at home. Lakeview provides all necessary classroom materials, so there is no need for students to bring their own.
Thank you for your support in helping our students stay focused and grow academically.
