Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome back to a new school year! Our Lakeview staff is looking forward to working with each of your children. The beginning of the year is always an exciting time. It is a time to renew old friendships and make new ones. We want to make this a successful year for your children. We have amazing teachers who love children and are preparing engaging lessons each day. If we work together with your active support and our best professional effort then each child will be ready to learn, dedicated to doing their best and experience a lot of success and happiness.

We are proud of our staff and students and invite you to be involved at Lakeview this school year. If you would like to visit your child's classroom, we welcome the opportunity to have you visit. If possible, we ask that you communicate with the teacher prior to coming in. Please enter through the front door only. You will be asked to sign in at the front office and wear a visitor sticker throughout your stay. We keep the exterior doors locked during school hours for safety.

Our school is A Leader in Me school. We teach the 7 Habits of highly effective people to our children and they love learning and applying the principles in their lives. We focus on encouraging the students to find the leader in them. We teach and give them opportunites to lead in a variety of ways. We hope that you are able to learn and live the principles of the 7 Habits in your home as well.

The 7 Habits are: 1. Be Proactive.  2. Begin with the End in Mind.  3. Put First Things First.  4. Think Win-Win.  5. Seek First to Understand, then to be Understood.  6. Synergize.  7. Sharpen the Saw.

If you would like information about the habits and an explanation of how we use the habits each day at Lakeview, please let me know and I will be happy to provide information. Please take the time to ask your children what each of these habits mean to them and your family. We recognize that each child has leadership qualities and when they apply the habits they are happier and experience success. We see a difference in ourselves as well as the children.

The Leader in Me fits right into our school mission and vision statements.

Our School Mission Statement: At Lakeview Elementary we commit to providing an education that fosters a love of learning, encourages excellence, helps students aim high to achieve goals, dream big, and empower everyone to be a leader.

You will also see our mission statement in this format so it is easy for the children to remember it.

Our school mission statement is:

Lakeview Leopards

  Love Learning

  Encourage Excellence

  Aim High to Acheieve Goals

  Dream Big

Empower the Leader in You!

We have an amazing PTA board. They did a supurb job last year and we look forward to being able to serve alongside them again. I would encourage all parents to become involved in the PTA. You can sign up to serve on a committee or as a committee chair. If you are not able to serve on a committe at this time, everyone can sign up to become a member of our PTA. By joining the PTA, you are giving all students the opportunity to participate in character education programs such as Green Ribbon Week, Red Ribbon Week, Reflections, as well as many other programs.

Our Community Council will meet regularly throughout the school year, look at our school's data, and make educational decisions to improve our students learning. We would like to thank those parents who have been willing to serve on our school council. Together we believe that every child can achieve academic success by providing quality instruction using best practices. Your active support and cooperation, combinded with our best professional efforts, will ensure academic success for your children.

Recently, I sent home a note asking everyone who drops off and picks up children in our drive thru to follow the procedures on that note. If we truly care about the children then we can be proactive in following the procedures to ensure that all children are safe when coming of leaving the school grounds. I really appreciate that each of you are respectful and are looking out for the safety of every child. Thank you to all of you parents and caregivers who have been following the drop off and pick up procedures of your children.

We will continue to focus on attendance this year. We need your help in making sure children are at school and that they recognize the  importance of being here on time and ready to learn and have fun. When children are at school on time every day they will continue to grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

Best wishes,

Shirley Passey, Principal
