Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome back from winter break and Happy New Year! I hope you and your family enjoyed your time together. There are a few new faces in the building. I want to welcome Shane Rasmussen, Cindy Nye and Sarah Falah to our staff. Mr. Rasmussen is an Intern Administrator and will be with us through the rest of this school year. He has taught 4th, 5th and 6th grade and has worked at Roosevelt and Plain City Elementary schools. We are excited to have him here at Lakeview.
In addition, we have Cindy Nye who is working as an aide for the remainder of the school year with a focus on supporting the 5th and 6th grade teachers and students. We are happy to have Sarah Falah as well who is our new computer lab aide. We welcome these three new members of our faculty and staff.
We have some important events coming up that I hope you will put on your calendar. We have Parent-Teacher Conferences on February 7th, 8th, and 9th. You can schedule your conference beginning Tuesday, January 16th. Watch for a note to come home.
On Tuesday, February 20th from 1:00 - 3:00 we will be having our Family Leadership Day. You will be able to come and see what we are doing with our 7 Habits of Happy Children. We use these habits daily at Lakeview. Watch for a flyer to come home with more information.
Recently a note was sent home with information about a school shirt for the students. The shirts will only cost $3.00 and the order form needs to be sent back as soon as possible to get the order placed by Thursday, January 18th.
This week I received some notes from some second grade students that filled my heart with joy. Here is what one of the notes said,
“Dear Mrs. Passey,
I love all your work and what you do for us, but my favorite part about school is that we learn about the leader in me. Sincerely, Bella”
I love Bella and every child at Lakeview. I’m so proud of her and all of the children and all of their accomplishments. I love how every child is working hard to learn new things and finding joy and happiness in their accomplishments. We love to celebrate their success and see the joy they feel when they recognize that all of their hard work helps them to be successful.
In the morning on January 19th (January 22nd for 3rd grade) our students will take the mid-year DIBELS (reading) test and we look forward to seeing a lot of happy kids as they reach or exceed their reading goals. It’s always fun to compare the first-of-the-year assessments with the mid-year assessments and celebrate the growth.
Please make sure you sign up and come to Parent-Teacher Conferences to see how much your child has grown and discuss any goals that you, your child and the teacher want to set for the next quarter.
The year is going by so quickly and I want to encourage you to be actively engaged in your child’s learning and growth. I want the children to feel supported, confident and successful every day.
